A furnace and central air conditioner can share a blower and duct system. That does not make every existing heating system ready for cooling.
The contractor needs to compare the home load with the selected equipment.
Blower performance must also account for the resistance of the duct system.
Follow the air out and back
Supply ducts carry conditioned air to the rooms. Return paths bring air back to the equipment.
Ask how each occupied room is served when doors are closed. Ask how the proposed airflow will be checked.
A register photograph cannot show the complete path or its restrictions.

It also addresses fittings and pressure loss. The procedure includes balancing, leakage and noise.
It is a design method, not a visual inspection shortcut. Ask what field measurements will verify the completed system.
Find space at the indoor equipment
The indoor coil commonly sits near the furnace or air handler. It needs a compatible equipment arrangement and a drain route.
Service access must remain available.
Photograph the equipment from far enough away to show its surroundings. Include model labels in separate close views.
Put verification in the proposal
ENERGY STAR advises homeowners to ask about home-specific sizing, airflow that meets manufacturer specifications, correct refrigerant charge and duct evaluation. Ask who will measure these items, what corrections are included and which test results you receive.
